NB Those of you who were my contemporaries will realise
that the B Payton in the photo is 'our' Pop Payton. He was at School from
1905-09.

Athletics
No names or date on the picture. However, the Cup is engraved "Athletics
Championship", below which is the Essex coat of arms. The man in the frock
coat I recognise from photos as WH Barker, Headmaster 1905-1932. He doesn't
look much older than his picture in the 1908-09 Football photo. Thus, from
his dress and appearance, I guess the picture was taken before WW1.

Tickner, EHGS 1943-48. The original source is obscure. Geoff's late wife
helped Ken Madgett organise a photo exhibition in their local church - St
George's in Burford Rd. Someone from Masterman Rd came in and offered the
pictures for the exhibition; they were never collected afterwards. They were
taken home by Geoff's wife, where they lay for about 15 years. He's recently
re-found them and sent them to me at the suggestion of Alan Carcas. I've
scanned them and here they are! Incidentally, such are the wonders of
electronic technology, that these copies look better than the sepia
originals.
